I am a NASM-certified personal fitness trainer, with a long-standing interest in health and fitness
as a means to achieve physical, mental and emotional well-being. Kick-boxing and traditional
boxing have been a significant part of my own fitness training for 10 years, and I enjoy applying
these techniques in my personal training style.

I have a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma, with an emphasis on
pre-medical sciences, and a PhD in neurobiology from Lund University in Sweden. In addition
to personal training, I also currently work as a biomedical researcher at the National Institute of
Mental Health, part of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. |

My research is
focused on the brain and its capacity to change due to environmental conditions and experiences,
as well as its altered function in pathological states. Recent evidence indicates risk factors for
cardiovascular diseases are also risk factors for brain degeneration or insults such as dimentia
and stroke. New research in neurobiology strongly suggests a clear influence of diet and
physical activity on brain function. Therefore, exercise and nutrition can be seen as preventative
measures not only for heart disease, but also to keep the brain healthy as we age.
My ultimate goal is to merge my education and experience as a neurobiologist with my passion
for personal training. My vision is to work with people to achieve optimal physical health and
fitness, and to simultaneously raise public awareness about the link between between physical
and mental health as a true mind-body connection. |
